Seed, Mulch and Soil Work for a Wet-Winter, Dry-Summer City

Hydroseeding Seattle sprays new lawns, stabilizes bare slopes and handles the soil and sediment work that comes before and around seeding. We work for homeowners finishing a remodel or a new house, for builders who need a lot covered before the rains, and for property managers with a bank that keeps slumping onto a walkway.

The ground here sets the rules. Seattle sits on an isthmus between Puget Sound and Lake Washington, and water covers about 41 percent of the city's area. Most of the year's 39 inches of precipitation falls between October and March, while the warm months are close to rainless. Across western Washington's uplands, soils such as the USDA's Alderwood series are gravelly sandy loam over dense glacial till that water barely passes through, so a perched water table can sit within a foot or two of the surface in winter. A lawn seeded without thinking about those facts tends to either dry out in August or wash off in November.

We think about them before we quote. That means asking when you can water, checking how deep the workable soil goes, noticing where runoff leaves your lot, and telling you plainly if a spot is better suited to a hydromulch cover or an erosion blanket than to turf.

How we work

  • We walk the site with you before giving a number, and the estimate is written and itemized
  • Seeding dates are picked for the weather, not just the calendar: early fall when we can, spring with a watering plan when we cannot wait
  • Seed mixes are cool-season blends chosen for sun, shade and how the area will be used
  • Grading, topsoil, silt fence and seeding can be done by our crew in one sequence, so nothing sits bare between trades
  • Bare soil near sidewalks and catch basins gets sediment control until the grass knits together
  • Before we pull out, you get a printed sheet covering the watering schedule and when to mow for the first time

We do not sell a one-size slurry. A sunny front yard in a flat neighborhood, a shaded backyard under cedars and a cut slope on a new build each get a different mix, mulch rate and plan.
